Jan E. Powers obituary

Mother, grandmother, grama, ji ma, sister, aunt, golden girl, and friend to many

Gene was born in Beloit, Wisconsin, to Alan and Elinor (Brown) Schwers. She graduated from North Boone High School in 1958, and began life as a wife and mother. In the mid-1970s, Jane helped start Steamco Carpet Cleaning, which she ran until she began her career with Sundstrand in 1978, working as a stock planner until her retirement in 2003. Jane enjoyed part-time retail jobs during her career, and volunteered at OSF St. Anthony for several years after retirement. Jane’s greatest joy was being able to become a full-time grandmother during her retired years, and was adored by all of her grandchildren. Jane reluctantly enjoyed traveling with her friends, the “Golden Girls”, and made several trips to visit her family in Florida.

Jane was a giving and caring person who could do anything for anyone, and left a lasting impression on whoever she met. She has acquired many pets over the course of her life, through no fault of her own, the most recent being her beloved dog, Fifi.

Her parents preceded her in death; baby brother. mosques; grandson of Joseph Connor Powers; brother-in-law, Kurt Smith; Brother Ralph Schwers; Sister Jacqueline “Jackie” McGonigal; and his son-in-law, David York.

Jane is survived by her children, Melissa Smith (Roscoe, IL), Jennifer (Ken) Jaeger (Garden Prairie, IL), Jim (Angela) Powers (Bradenton, FL), Heather (Tyler) Pearson (Rockford, IL); Descendants, Casey (Jeremy) Gerb (Roscoe, IL), Aaron (Caitlin) Jaeger (Roscoe, IL), Andrew (Natalie) Smith (Crystal Lake, IL), Justin (Daniel Bada) Smith (Roscoe, IL), Nathan ( Trisha Farner) Jaeger (Port Huron, MI), Chloe (Kyle Weiher) Powers (Kenosha, WI), Corbin Pearson (Rockford, IL); The Great-Grandchildren, Ashley (Jas Belich) Grub, Jesse Tray, Parker Smith, Red Smith, Milo Jaeger, Jack Jaeger; great-grandson of Jasper Baelish; Siblings, Roger Schwers (Rockton, IL), Stan (Mary) Schwers (Roscoe, IL), Wendy (Bill) Ellingson (Poplar Grove, IL), Mary York (Champaign, IL), Connie (Bill) Hazer (Loves Park, I); And many nieces, nephews and cousins.
